Jatinmaniac: But sir these ISP's being funded by venture capitalists are making a hole in VSNL profits. How do you decides to handle this problem?
AK : Jatin- we are putting a lot of pressure on MTNL - we hope by end of April.

Chat_king: Is VSNL thinking of giving its customer's broadband access in the near future?
AK : We believe in maintaining quality of service most of the users are not aware that they r actually paying more for free ISP's than for a paid ISP's the telephone charges are RS 25 per hour while ISP charges Rs10 per hr so if u get a slow service which takes u twice as long to download u still end up paying rs 50 for something which u could have got in RS 35 through the paid ISP. Will u believe that we have seen 20 thousand downloads for one of the free ISP recently launched each of, which has taken nearly an hour with out the users having been able to use the service. I think many people are taken for a ride the new ISP's are interested in registrations which u can do easily but u can't use their Service.

Rahul dey: Point taken sir..Thank Q
AK : Obviously they are interested in valuations based on no of customers rather that providing service VSNL actually benefits by reduction of calling ISD rates we are paid at rs 10 per min irrespective of the tariff for the calls in india. Rahul- we therefore benefit by the volumes and not by high rates we have been impressing on the govt to reduce the calling rates in India so that the call-backs can be reduced and illegal usage stopped.

Rahuldey: Don't you think VSNL image is falling down day-by-day? Who is responsible for that?
AK : Rahul - u need to look at our balance sheet and the performance parameters which are announced regularly our Web site is www.vsnl.com- I invite u to visit this site

AK : chat--king--- The new policy by DOT is to go in for a limited no of players in the long distance market--with probably a hefty price tag--- we need to see how best we can bid in this scenario. We, I can assure are extremely serious about these new opportunities and we intend to be a part of this market in whatever form it takes. However we continue to believe that the real opportunities will come off the Internet market--the new ATM and wireless technologies. There is no difference between local and long distance rates in most countries. So the going is not going to be easy for the new players.

Kannanrajed: What is your plan to increase the security?
AK : Kanan---We have adequate security but we are beefing it up for e-commerce. The security in today's environment really needs to keep moving with each new technology and new piece of software, which is used, on the web.

Chat_king: I hope the customer is the ultimate winner
